A vasectomy is a minor surgical procedure that provides permanent contraception. It works by preventing sperm from entering the semen by interrupting the vas deferens, the tubes that transport sperm from the testicles.
A no-scalpel vasectomy is a minor procedure that provides permanent contraception by preventing sperm from entering the semen.
Rather than making a surgical incision, Dr Michael Read uses a tiny puncture to access the vas deferens (the tubes that carry sperm from the testicles). A small section of each tube is removed and sealed before being returned to the scrotum.
Because no stitches are required, the procedure is minimally invasive and is associated with less discomfort, a lower risk of bleeding and infection, and a quicker recovery than traditional vasectomy techniques.

Prior to the procedure, Dr Read will provide a detailed explanation and assess suitability for a no-scalpel vasectomy. This consultation also provides an opportunity to ask questions and discuss any concerns.
In most cases, consultation and procedure can be completed on the same day, although separate appointments can also be arranged if preferred.
For the procedure, Dr Read offers light sedation, which many patients choose for added comfort and relaxation. However, the procedure can also be performed under local anaesthetic alone for those who prefer to avoid sedation or wish to drive themselves home.

Yes. You’ll continue to ejaculate normally, with little noticeable change in the appearance or volume of semen, as sperm make up only a small percentage of the ejaculate.
A vasectomy is not immediately effective. You must continue using contraception until your follow-up semen analysis confirms that no sperm remain.
