Now operating from Gold Coast Circumcision Centre, Dr Michael Read has performed circumcisions on infants, boys and men for over 30 years. Gold Coast Circumcision Centre is operated by Dr Michael Read. He has more than thirty years’ experience performing circumcision. These were often done in the hospital surgical environment but Dr Read recognised the procedure was well-suited to conduct in his clinic and that there was a need to offer a dedicated circumcision service to infants, children and adults. What is circumcision? Circumcision is a simple surgical procedure that removes the foreskin – a sleeve of skin covering the tip of the penis. Although infancy is the ideal time for circumcision, many adult men and teens seek circumcision for medical, health, sexual, cultural, religious and cosmetic reasons. Infant circumcision and the circumcision of pre-pubertal boys is performed using the Plastibell technique, where a small ring is placed over the head of the penis under the foreskin and secured with a tie, effectively clamping off blood flow to the end of the foreskin and allowing it to be removed. Adults and teens require a different surgical procedure known as a sleeve technique. Both are simple procedures providing minimal discomfort.
